I am trying to find out for sure if we are allowed to roll on sidegrade items in raids instead of using DKP. The reason being is, sometimes we may get an upgrade that requires us to change our gear around a little bit to remain hit or haste capped, etc...sometimes an upgrade will have a lot of hit rating on it, and it puts us over our hit cap, in cases like this a sidegrade item can replace onother piece of gear that has hit on it with haste or crit etc... here's what the loot guidelines say.

Loot Policy:
A raider can only get priority on an item that is a PVE upgrade. Sidegrades and PVP items can be taken if they are not a PVE upgrade for another player in the raid that is bidding DKP.

If an item is not DKP'd it will go to offspec rolls before DE. *Note: PVE upgrades must be purchased through DKP not offspec rolls.

If an item is a significant PVE upgrade you must DKP it. If it is not DKP'd and looted to someone else you will be charged the cost of the item. *Note: Passing upgrades to another raider out of kindness is fine as long as it does not become frequent.

Loot priority will be as follows:
Raid role - PvE Main Spec.
Armor Type (with the FEW exceptions if it is a "Best in Slot" item)
Offspec/PVP/Sidegrades

My initial response is yes, but that's just my personal understanding of rules that were established before I was an officer. Though, because it falls in the same tier with Offspec and PvP items if you do roll on it you have no special priority, though some can choose to pass to you if they wish.

One example I recall from early on in raiding was Zoniuz rolling on Dying Curse, and Skull passed after winning the roll because Zon had a more likely chance of using it if his hit requirements changed. If skull had not chosen to pass, zon would not have received it.

At the time of the roll, Zon was hit capped so that stat was wasted if he were to equip it that moment, making it a downgrade at the time. But if he were to change his gear up and drop hit, then he'd use it.
